‘Working’ Revisited
Forty years ago, radio broadcaster and historian Studs Terkel interviewed ordinary Americans from every walk of life about their jobs. The result was the highly acclaimed book Working, a compelling account of the challenges and responsibilities of work and the meaning derived from it.
Inspired by Terkel’s book, students in journalism classes at the University of Cincinnati interviewed a dozen men and women in the Cincinnati area about their jobs. They captured the workers’ likes and dislikes, fears, problems and satisfactions – in text, photos and video.
