Advisers

Assistant Educator Professor Bob Jonason directs the bureau. He also teaches convergent journalism classes, is the faculty adviser to UC’s student chapter of the Online News Association, and coordinates the department’s internship program. He has more than three decades of experience in professional journalism, more than half of it in emerging media. For a decade he was a leader in digital media at The Indianapolis Star. He directed The Star’s Online Services department, overseeing digital content, sales, production and design. Jonason previously was an editor for 12 years at Philadelphia Newspapers, first in the newsroom of The Philadelphia Inquirer and then as a founding editor of Philadelphia Online, now Philly.com. Early in his career he was on The (Fort Wayne) News-Sentinel staff that won a Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting. He has taught journalism classes as an adjunct professor at Indiana University and as an instructor at Ball State University.

Associate Educator Professor Sean Hughes has more than 15 years of professional photojournalism and design experience, primarily as the Art Director for both CityBeat newspaper and The Sondheim Review national magazine. During that time he amassed a collection of work in design, art direction and photography for a variety of multimedia photo shows, websites, intranet development, corporate image packages, books, CDs, posters, magazines and more.
