About Us

Born from collaboration

Faculty and students in the University of Cincinnati’s Journalism Program developed the New Media Bureau during the 2008-09 school year. The bureau’s founding team members investigated the uncertainties and challenges facing Cincinnati news providers, then explored opportunities to put their experience and resources to work finding solutions. The team set two goals that have become the bureau’s mission:

Tell the untold stories

In the current era of small news teams and tight budgets, even the best newsroom can miss a provocative story. The bureau explores the city’s underreported stories and tells them through multimedia packages.

Cultivate the next generation of journalists

No one can deny that new journalists face a difficult career path. The bureau gives a select group of top students the real-world experience to hit the ground running when they enter the workforce. Students come away from the bureau understanding not only the tools and techniques of modern media, but also the expectations, deadlines and requirements of a professional newsroom.
